VALA NC takes a comprehensive approach to student well-being by integrating cognitive, physical, and social development into the school experience. Our program includes both “brain sports” and physical wellness activities to support the whole child.
Brain Sports (Cognitive Athletics)
VALA NC offers a variety of “brain sports”—structured, competitive activities that develop critical thinking, memory, strategy, and problem-solving skills. Students may participate in:
Chess and strategy games
Coding and robotics challenges
Esports and digital competitions
Debate and public speaking
Math and academic competitions
These activities build focus, resilience, and intellectual confidence while promoting healthy competition and teamwork.
Physical Wellness and Movement
Although VALA NC is a virtual school, we prioritize physical health and movement throughout the day. Students engage in:
Guided movement and fitness sessions
Stretching and brain breaks
Yoga and mindfulness activities
Optional fitness challenges
These activities help improve focus, reduce stress, and support overall well-being.
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and Wellness
Student wellness also includes emotional and social development. VALA NC integrates SEL practices to help students:
